Countertop Maintenance

Granite

Granite is a natural stone product and is pourous and can stain when liquids are spilled on it. To prevent this from happening granite has to be resealed every 3-5 years with a special impregnating sealer. Some folks even just do it once a year when doing fall or spring cleaning of their homes, that is perfectly fine and will not damage your granite from oversealing. For cleaning nothing special has to be used, your everyday soap and water will work just fine. Do not use acidic cleaners including vinegar, lemon, or lime for the cleaning of your countertops because these products will eventually remove the polish from your stone and the sealer used to prevent staining will not protect your surface from these products. Maintenance products are available for purchasing at Boundary Stone Works.

Quartz

Quartz, being an engineered or man-made stone, is virtually a maintenance free product. It is a non-pourous material because of the epoxy resin that is used to bond and create this product which seals it off and prevents stains. For cleaning, soap and water works great but remember to prevent using the acidic cleaners because they will affect your surface polish over time.

Marble

The maintenance of marble countertops is very similar to granite, clean with soap and water, seal with a natural stone sealer, and prevent cleaning the surface with acidic cleaners.

Helpful Tips

Even though your stone countertops are very durable products and have proven to be very good for scratch and heat resistant, it is still a good idea to use cutting boards or pads whenever possible to help maintain the beautiful elegant look of your countertops for many years to come.
